Project Lungesti, 2000 project was to renovate an old peoples home in the small rural community of Lungesti. During the year we had also raised enough donations to allow us ato take zn articulated lorry full of aid and equipment. We also wanted to enlist the help of the local people to encourage them to help themselves.
There was no proper sanitation or running water as the wells dry up in the summer and the pipes freeze in the winter. Conditions there were very, very, poor.
The Old Laundry | |
|
The old laundry was a single storey extension to the main building (two rooms). Inside one of the rooms was this old enameled metal bath which they had got access to the the underneath by cutting a hole in the outside wall. A fire was kept permanently going under the bath to heat water, which they used to wash the clothes.

Woodburning Stove This was a small building we erected to house the new wood burner (wood is in plentiful supply). The wood burner is being used to supply hot water to the showers and washbasins | |

You wouldn’t believe it’s the same room, 3 showers in each plus 3 washbasins in each. |
This just shows what can be achieved with your support and a little hard work……. |
